Kamal Sefrioui specializes in international arbitration, with a particular focus on disputes involving State responsibility, political crisis, armed conflicts, international sanctions and force majeure situations. He has also argued high-stakes cases relating to corruption and financial fraud.

In conjunction with his arbitration practice, Kamal advises on issues of public international law for a number of heads of States and diplomatic corps, and has notably participated to the negotiation of two peace treaties.

He is a member of the ICC International Court of Arbitration, representing the Kingdom of Morocco since 2024.

  • Represented an Arab State against a South American contractor in a 300 million dollars ICC arbitration, involving fraud and corruption in the performance of a contract for the construction of roads, bridges and other transport infrastructure.

  • Represented the Ministry of Defense of an Arab State against a leading manufacturer in the field of defense in a 60 million euros ICC arbitration governed by Swiss law, involving the rescission of an arms contract, in the context of international sanctions.

  • Represented an Arab State in a 150 million euros PCA arbitration, initiated under a bilateral investment treaty, involving the construction of roads, street lighting, sewage and water treatment infrastructures.

  • Represented an Arab State-owned company against a French shipbuilder in a 100 million dollars ICC arbitration governed by English law, involving the rescission of a shipbuilding contract, in the context of international sanctions.

  • Represented an Arab State in a 130 million dollars ad hoc arbitration (UNCITRAL Rules), initiated under a bilateral investment treaty, in relation to the destruction of industrial facilities during civil and military unrest.

  • Represented an African contractor in a 70 million dollars ICC arbitration governed by Chadian law, involving the construction of electric power and sewage infrastructures throughout the country.

  • Represented an Arab State in a 30 million dollars ICC arbitration, initiated under a bilateral investment treaty, in relation to the termination of a water infrastructure project, in a post-conflict environment.

  • Several aviation arbitrations (including IATA) relating to aircraft acquisitions, aircraft finance and leasing, aircraft maintenance contracts and agency agreements. 

  • Several maritime arbitrations involving accidents at sea, damaged merchandises, dangerous goods (IMDG) and various aspects of the carriage of commercial goods by sea.

  • Numerous commercial arbitrations involving government contracts, infrastructure projects, energy, construction and engineering as well as general commercial matters.
